Bad Press: Patti Smith & Annie Leibovitz

For this project I compared the lives and work of Annie Leibovitz and Patti Smith, two very successful women in their respective fields. In doing research on both of these women, I found myself drawn to the articles and voices that spoke harshly and critically of the two individuals. I quickly learned what fans and critics preferred from each woman, and what they did not. I feel as though it is always more interesting to hear about the mistakes an individual made, not because it is more gossip driven, but because I strongly believe it helps to create a much greater and relatable dialogue. We all inevitably make mistakes, and Patti and Annie are no exception. The final product is a reversible accordion book with Annie on one side and Patti on the other.
